Collection

The strength of the present Science Library collection over 31,500 volumes mainly on Basic and applied sciences and the collection includes monographs, maps, research reports, past examination papers, theses and audio – visual materials. Most of the resources are on open shelves except for a few special collections.

Reference Collection

Reference collection can be divided in to 3 categories

Permanent Reference

Permanent and quick reference collection of bibliographies, encyclopedias, dictionaries, yearbooks and latest editions of monographs with heavy demand are housed in the Reading Room in the second Floor. These must be consulted within the reading area and not permitted to be borrowed from the Library.

Scheduled Reference

Scheduled reference materials are also housed in the in the second floor with the permanent reference materials. These can be borrowed for one night (two hour before closing time, until such time the book will be in the Reference section for consultation).

Short Loan Collection

Textbooks recommended by teaching staff members of the Faculty of Science are available in the Library office. These books are issued for a few hours from 8.00 a.m. to 12 noon and 1.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m.

Periodicals Collection

Current periodical Room located in the ground floor displays 30 periodicals titles mainly on Basic and applied sciences. A collection of bound back issues of journals amounting to 10,125 volumes (940 titles) are housed in the third floor of the Library.

Special collections

Donations, Bequests and Valuable Collections belonging to the Library. The Science Library possess a valuable collection of stamps of the world carefully selected, arranged, appropriately titled and framed by the eminent journalist and writer Mr. Carl Muller. This valuable collection donated to the Library by Mr. Carl Muller is displayed on the right-hand side of the main staircase leading to the upper floors.

Theses and Dissertations submitted to the Faculty of Science and the PGIS and a few copies of theses submitted by the teaching staff members to foreign universities (Library office).
