Library Membership and Borrowing Facilities

The Main Library provides membership to a wide range of readers in the University and outside with varying degree of facilities. All prospective library users should apply for library registration. The categories of readers, venues of registration, documentary evidence and facilities provided are as follows:

Academic and Academic support Staff of University of Peradeniya

Visiting Lecturers Letter of appointment issued by the University and a payment of a refundable fee of Rs. 2000 for each library ticket up to 5 tickets Borrowing up to a limit of 5 books for one month.

Administrative and Non Academic staff of University of Peradeniya

Labourers & similar grades Letter of appointment issued by the University Borrowing up to a limit of 01 book for a period of two weekds (Those who have completed more than one year's service with two tickets could borrow two books for a period of two weeks)

Additional library tickets could be obtained from the Head Reader Services Division after producing a letter indicating valid reasons to do so.
Post Graduates of the Faculty of Arts ( Foreign) Letter of admission issued by the University and payment of library fees Rs. 5000.00 and refundable library deposit of Rs. 2000 per library ticket 2 library tickets Borrowing period two weeks

External Scholars and Researchers

Renewals

Books borrowed by users can be renewed for another two weeks if another user has not reserved the items. To renew such a book the user should produce the item at the circulation counter on or before the due date. If the user is unable to attend the library for renewal, he may send a letter or a post card with the following details;

  • Author
  • Title
  • Accession No.
  • Class No.
  • Date of return
  • Ticket No. if any

Renewal of material will be done only once. Overdue books or the materials from the reference collections will not be renewed.

Renewals

  1. Reserving and borrowing new additions - Displayed new additions can be borrowed by reserving them in the file kept at the circulation counter in the First floor.
  2. Requesting books which are not found on the shelf - This is a service provided by the library to its users when a particular material is not found on the shelf. The staff will take immediate action to find the material through various procedures when a check slip is filled and given to the circulation counter,
