New appointments
Mr. Rivikantha Bandara Herath assumed duties on 1st of March 2013 at the main library of University of Peradeniya as the Programmer of ICT Division. He obtained his first degree, B Sc. (physical sciences) from University of Peradeniya and currently reading for the M Sc. in computer science at the Post Graduate Institute of Science (PGIS). Prior to his appointment at the university he has worked at GniusIT (Pvt) Ltd. as Web Developer.

Sabbatical Leave
Dr. ( Ms. ) P. Wijetunge, Librarian, University of Peradeniya was granted sabbatical Leave for a period of ten months with effect from 1st of November 2012.
Acting Librarian
Ms. K.M.H.K. Wijetunge Senior Assistant Librarian, Faculty of Engineering was appointed as the Acting Librarian from 1st of November 2012 to cover the duties in the absence of the Librarian
Retirement after excellent 40 years of University Library Service (1972 - 2012)
Mr. N.A.W.A.T. Alwis, Senior Assistant Librarian, Main Library retired with effect from 30th September 2012 after completing forty years of dedicated and committed university library service. Mr. Alwis startered his carrier as the Assistant Librarian of the Faculoty of Science and the he served as the Senior Assistant Librarian of Acquisitions Division, IT section, Faculty of engineering and finally Periodicals Division. He pioneered in the use of Information Technology in providing library services at University of Peradeniya.

Felicitation ceremony for and distribution of awards to best library employees
Felicitation ceremony organized by the Library Welfare Society was held on the 22nd of March 2013 at the Main Library to honour seven library employees who left the library network on retirement, transfer, death and for other employments. Professor Shantha Hennayake the Deputy Vice Chancellor graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and distributed the awards to Mr. A.T. Alwis, Mr. K.G. Jayaratne, Mr. H. H. Chandradasa, Ms. Kamani Rmbukpotha and Ms. E.A. Gunaratne on behalf of her husband. Distribution of cash awards for best library assistant and best library attendant was also took place during the ceremony. The above award was initiated by Mr. N. T. S. A. Senadeera, Retired Librarian of library network with his personal funds. The Best Library Assistants were Mr. Vijitha Nawarathne of Engineering Library and Ms. S. Amunugama of Agriculture Library for the years 2010 and 2011. The best library attendants were Mr. V.T.G. Chandrasekara and Mr. H.M. Herath Banda both of the Main Library for the year 2010 and 2011 respectively.

Dambawinna has presented a paper titled “Effective approaches of delivering Inter library loans: a case study at Niigata University Japan” on 29th November 2012 before the delegates of Niigata University, Japan at the Main hall of Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. The presentation is based on the research carried out by Ms. Dambawinna at the above training program.

Workshop on Library Digital Perseveration
Ms. C.N.K. Alahakoon, Senior Assistant Librarian of the Reference Services Division attended the workshop on “Library Digital Preservation “ on 15th and 16th of November at the National Library and Documentation Services Board, Colombo 7.
